Magmadar Strategy
Map :
wow.azzor.com/155/magmadar_strategy.php
Key Points:
Use tranquilizing shot (a Hunter spell drop from Lucifron) when Magmadar frenzies. It makes it EXTREMELY difficult to kill him without using tranq shots. It is possible to do this with 1, but 2+ are recommended. Beware of misses.
Stay out of fire.
Remember that the core hounds leading up to Magmadar are on a 1 hour timer. If you wipe a few times, you'll have to mind the respawn.
Place your main tank healers at max range from the tank, so that they can avoid being hit by Magmadar's AE fear.
Place all melee (besides the main tank) on Magmadar's back or sides to avoid being hit by the breath.
Fear on the main tank is one of the biggest obstacles. Depending on your faction, figure out a strategy for keeping fear off your MT. Alliance are able to use Fear Ward (2 Dwarf Priests so the Tank has it at all times). Horde will have to Stance Dance ; to avoid fear on the MT switching to Berserker range this breakes his fear !
When you go to pull Magmadar you may want to use a Paladin (With Divine Shield) to initially pull him and have a Warrior take the aggro to ease the process. Later on alot of guilds are able to just have the Warrior pull him but when learning the encounter its better to be safe.
Magmadar Abilities:
Magmadar has a frontal cone shaped ae much like onyxia. It doesn't do as much damage as onyxias, but it should still only be hitting the tank.
Magma Spit: Magmadar spits out "globs" of fire at random people throughout the fight. The glob of fire stays at that spot on the ground for some time. Everyone runs out of the fire if it's spit at them, and then avoids it as much as possible afterwards. If you touch the fire you will get a nasty dot on you.
Magma Spit: I think this is a pbae dot. It's super weak damage though - mainly just annoying because it stops us from bandaging.
AE Fear: Magmadar has a 30 second cooldown AE fear. Once his cooldown is up, he has to "decide" to use it so really it's done every 30-36 seconds.
Frenzy: This is the important ability that needs to be countered. Magmadar will often go "into a killing frenzy" (there is an emote for it that everyone can see). He then does much more melee DPS to the tank. Hunters can "cancel out" the frenzy with the spell: tranquilizing shot (which drops from Lucifron.)
Immolate: Melee classes fighting Magmadar will experience minor immolation damage
